Representative Payee Social Security Guidelines
The Social Security office has designated the Crisis Center, Inc. to act as your payee. The following guidelines pertaining to this service are to be followed:
- Food, shelter, and medical/mental health needs will be paid prior to other requests.
- Personal spending checks and requests for funds will be distributed on Thursdays.
- My budget will be set up in an initial meeting between myself and the representative payee. Checks that cover my basic needs and my personal spending will be distributed according to the monthly schedule agreed upon.
- My representative payee will be the contact person regarding financial emergencies.
- Behaviors that will result in termination of payeeship are as follows:
- Threatening or excessively demanding behavior regarding consumer’s finances.
- Use of entitlements for the purchase of illegal substances, excessive alcohol purchases, or any alcohol purchases if the consumption of alcohol is contraindicated with consumer’s psychiatric treatment.
- Lack of cooperation with staff and continual disagreements over expenditures and/or utilization of finances.
- Crisis Center, Inc. will allocate funds to me at their discretion based on my money management skills and current needs.
