About Us
The Crisis Center, a United Way of Central Alabama agency, has been providing 24-hour, 365 day per year support, crisis and suicide intervention, community information and referrals through telephone counseling since 1970. An integral part of that mission is to correlate our services to the diverse and changing needs of the community. Therefore, specialized programs have emerged through the Crisis Center during the agency’s life span, which include:
- 24-hour Crisis & Suicide Line
- Rape Response
- Kids’ Help Line
- Teen Link
- Senior Talk Line
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Facility
- The Mental Health Association
- Representative Payee Program
In addition to the direct services these programs provide, the Crisis Center is dedicated to community outreach, providing education on important issues within our community. Presentations are uniquely designed to meet the needs of diverse groups, including churches, schools, community service clubs, youth organizations, and businesses.
The Crisis Center is a member of the American Association of Suicidology, Alabama Coalition Against Sexual Violence, and an affiliate of the Mental Health of America.
